HEALTH INSURANCE WHEN PARTICIPATING IN THE WORK AND TRAVEL PROGRAM

Accident and health insurance is typically provided for all students participating in the Work and Travel program through sponsor companies and the applying agency, and this insurance is included in the cost of the program.

Participants can benefit from this insurance not only during their period of work in America but also from the moment they arrive in America until they return.

Detailed information about the scope and usage of health insurance will be conveyed to you by your counselors. However, you can gain a general understanding by reviewing the following information:

When you want to use your health insurance:

  • During hospital procedures, you should mention that you have insurance and show the insurance card or policy number provided to you to the authorities. You should also provide your residential address in America to the hospital.
  • If the hospital recognizes your insurance, you can receive immediate treatment by only paying the processing fee if exist in hospital. If they do not recognize it, they will give you a document called a ‘Claim Form.’ You will need to fill out this form and mail it to the insurance company. The insurance company will reimburse you for the expenses you paid.

Health insurance covers any illness that requires emergency intervention. However, it is important to carry your regularly used medications with you. For example, if you have diabetes, you should carry your medications with you; however, you can still benefit from insurance in case of an emergency. Chronic conditions (such as diabetes, depression, etc.) are generally not covered by insurance. Additionally, eye and dental problems that do not result from an accident are typically not covered by insurance. Cosmetic surgeries are also generally not covered by insurance anywhere in the world.
